10 reasons to
list a home during the holidays
Homebuyers must purchase homes all year long, and
there are some advantages to placing homes on the
market during the holiday season. Sellers planning
to list their home soon should consider some of the
following benefits:
1. People who look at property during the
holidays are serious buyers and are more ready to
make a decision.
2. Serious buyers have fewer houses to choose from
during the holidays, so property has less
competition.
3. Houses "show better" when decorated for the
holidays with the lights and festive colors
associated with the season.
4. Buyers are more emotional during the holidays
and often base their decision on the warmth and
good feeling they receive when viewing a house.
5. Buyers have time to look for a house during the
holidays because they have more time off from
work.
6. Many people want to buy before the end of the
year for financial and tax reasons.
7. January is traditionally the month for
transfers, and transferees can't wait until later
to buy.
8. Buyers may always restrict showings during
personal family events, so selling a home need not
interfere with private parties.
9. Sellers always have the option of requesting a
delayed closing or extending their occupancy until
early 2005 if the buyer agrees.
10. If trading up, selling a home over the
holidays gives sellers a chance to shop in the
spring when more properties come on the market.
